Who are RADAR and why
are we involved?
RADAR
is a pan-disability charity working for fairness and equality for the
11 million people in the UK affected by disability or long-term health
conditions. RADAR is led by people with direct experience of health
conditions or disability and has a membership of around 1,000
individuals and organisations (from local access groups to some of the
UK's largest charities), with an estimated reach of around 1.5 million
people.
Our vision is of a just and equal society whose strength is
human
difference. We pursue this at 3 levels:
- First, by enabling individuals to "do life differently" -
live independently, actively participate and have more influence.
- Second, by supporting networks of disabled
leaders/organisations to stimulate change locally and nationally.
- Third, by channelling the views and experiences of disabled
people to policy-makers and major organisations.
RADAR's strategic objectives for 2008-2011 are:
- Freedom and choice in relationships, family and home.
- An end to disability-related poverty.
- More people with ill health, injury or disability in
leadership positions.
