All Party Parliamentary Disability Group

RADAR provides secretariat support to the All Party Parliamentary Disability Group which was founded by Lord Ashley of Stoke, its current Chair, in the 1960s to provide a forum for parliamentarians of all parties to debate disability issues.

Membership of the Group is open to any Parliamentarian. The Group is one of the largest and most active of the hundreds of All-Party Groups that exist at Westminster.

The Group meets monthly when Parliament is sitting.  At each meeting members receive a presentation on current disability issues. This may be from a disability organisation, a Government Minister or an academic. Observers are also welcome to attend the meetings.

The APPDG celebrates 40 years

In February the APPDG held a parliamentary reception to celebrate 40 years since its inception.  Lord Ashley of Stoke was presented with an award to recognise his services to disabled people over his 40 years as Chair of the group.
