Resources for Local Access Groups

Local access groups are vital to creating inclusive and accessible environments and a key means of ensuring disabled people are genuinely involved in the shaping of their local community.

The Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE), supported by RADAR, has won a contract to host, develop and maintain the Access Group Resources website. This contract has been awarded by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).

Access Group Resources was set up in 2007 by Disability Wales on behalf of the Disability Rights Commission (DRC). The project’s aim is to develop the capacity of local access groups by providing them with a set of online resources. Groups can use the website to share issues, stimulate discussion and build up an understanding of best practice approaches to accessibility.

After the closure of the DRC in September 2007, the website was inherited by the EHRC. The EHRC decided that CAE, supported by RADAR,  was ideally placed to continue the website’s development, given its longstanding and proven commitment to access issues and inclusive design.

As it expands and improves the information and features on the website, CAE will be supported by RADAR, who will raise awareness of the resource through its valuable network of contacts. RADAR has a long history of supporting access groups and local disability groups concerned with access issues. We are therefore ideally placed to work with CAE to ensure the web resources reach the grassroots and reflect their needs.

Website consultation

CAE is in the process of developing the website content and features available, and would appreciate feedback from both current and potential website users. If you are a member of an access group, or you believe that you might benefit from this resource, then please complete the online survey to help CAE create a website that meets your needs.

Please begin by taking a few minutes to explore what the current Access Group Resources website has to offer.

Once you have seen what the current website has to offer, complete the online survey at http://tinyurl.com/AGR-survey – this should only take about five minutes.

Many thanks for your feedback and support.
