In 2009 CSCI will join together with the Healthcare Commission and the Mental Health Act Commission to create a new regulator, the Care Quality Commission. The Care Quality Commission will be responsible for regulating all adult social care, healthcare services and monitoring the rights of patients detained under the Mental Health Act.
The Department of Health are now consulting on the 'registration requirements' that services will have to meet to provide services. These regulations will cover all services regulated by the Care Quality Commission, and will be the regulations that are used to register services, inspect them and take enforcement action if necessary.
The Department of Health are also consulting on the scope of regulation under the Care Quality Commission, i.e., the sorts of services that will be regulated in the future.
The Department are running a number of consultation events to find out people's views on these issues. The information about the events is in the attachment below. We apologise if you have already been sent this information direct by DH - we are trying to reach the greatest number of people possible. We thought you or people you represent might be interested in going along to one of the events to give your views. DH will meet any necessary expenses for people who use services that attend, including travel expenses and personal assistant costs.
