Campaigns

RADAR's campaigns are guided by members' needs and views.  At any one time, RADAR will run several campaigns simultaneously.  We are currently campaigning on:

Independent Living: RADAR is part of a national campaign 'Our Lives, Our Choices' that has formed in support of the Independent Living Bill.  We are seeking radical reform of health and social care.

Doing Work Differently: We are currently piloting our new guide to getting and keeping a job while managing impairment.

Single Equality Green Paper: RADAR is campaigning with the Disability Charities Consortium to strengthen the Green Paper to provide a better deal for disabled people.

Assisted Dying: RADAR is campaigning against the introduction of assisted dying on the grounds that it would be a step back in achieving equality for all disabled people.  Our publication, Assisted Dying: the facts lays out the case against assisted dying, and the impact it would have on disabled people.  It received mention in the debate that ended with a voting down of the Joffe Bill on the 12 May 2006.  Please email marije.davidson@radar.org.uk if you would like to campaign with RADAR in your region.

Welfare reform: RADAR is working with our member organisations to ensure that the Government's Welfare Reform Bill provides the best possible outcome for disabled people.  We are in constant discussion with the Government and members about how the Bill can best be amended to achieve this.  Click here to read our position paper and recommendations for how the Bill should be amended.

Taxi!: RADAR is campaigning to convince Local Authorities of the necessity of increasing the number of accessible taxis available, and change licensing practices accordingly.

Access to Work: RADAR believes that the Government should undertake a fundamental review of the Access to Work scheme as a part of ensuring that welfare reform is successful.  It will also be interesting to see how the Government's plans for Access to Work will tie in with the Tranforming Community Equipment Services review, as RADAR believes a holistic approach is the best way to provide real outcomes for disabled people.  We need your case studies about how the scheme works at present to provide an evidence base to convince the Government of the need for a review.  Click here to send us your case studies.    Over the course of the year, we will be launching other, small scale campaigns in the area of access.
