20/01/2010 - Pre-Employment Health Checks: An Injustice Living on Borrowed Time?

Pre-Employment Health Checks are one of the biggest barriers to people with injury, ill-health or disability gaining employment, enabling those employers with exaggerated fears of disability (epescially mental health conditions, or other stigmatised conditions such as HIV) to weed out candidates viewed as somehow risky. Following the recent amendments to the Equality Bill in the House of Lords which will ban Pre-Employment Health Checks, we examine the impact of these health checks on the people who face them.
