National Empowerment

The Empowerment strand of the national programme is equally important. This consists of six regional events across England. These events are all about empowering people to have their say in the services they receive and being able to play a more active part in their communities. They are about informing and enabling.

At each empowerment event we bring together local disabled peoples organisations and services, together with disabled people, addressing issues that are relevant to the area. This often includes Primary Care Trusts, local authorities, speakers on disability rights, disability law, the media and disability hate crime. They make for active, engaging days, with debates and exchanges of ideas and information.

To support these events we have produced an empowerment guide, full of useful tips and information on local involvement. It is a great source of information, on where to go and who to contact on various empowerment issues. Including; local transport, local health services, dealing with the media, housing, contacting your MP etc.
