Radar runs a substantial number of events across the United Kingdom every year. These events often have a policy focus and will be looking to draw on local activists’ evidence, knowledge and expertise. These events are nearly always provided free of charge and are fully accessible. Recent examples have included a spotlight on the United Nations’ convention on the Rights of People with disabilities; Independent Living and the Right to Control; round tables with key policy stakeholders on employment issues; sheltered employment; nursing (access to the profession and the provision of services). Reports always follow these events, so you will be able to see where your opinion has made a difference.
Recent events have been held in cities across the country – Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and London. You don’t have to be a member to attend, although you will receive advance publicity if you are and these events are quite often over subscribed. If you want to make sure you know about Radar’s events as soon as possible, you should either sign up as a member or ask to receive our free electronic newsletter by emailing membership.team@radar.org.uk.
Additionally, of course, there is always our AGM, usually held in October and followed by a debate of national significance with keynote speakers from disabled people’s organisations and Parliament. For example, our last debate focussed on the effect the new Equality Act might have on the delivery of health and social care services.
