Campaigners and Policy Makers

This section of our website contains information about Radar’s campaigning activities, policy positions and a gateway to information on the All Party Parliamentary Group on Disability.

Making disability rights real now

Leadership

Radar wants to see more people living with disability or health conditions in leadership roles in every part of society.

Radar undertook Britain's first national survey of disabled people in senior jobs - Doing Seniority Differently.

For research into what disabled people want from sustainable careers see Supporting Sustainable Careers.

Equality

Disabled people's voices and experiences shape political debate and generate change.

We offer a national campaigning voice - and opportunities for members to engage with decision makers.

Our views can empower elected representatives, service providers and policy makers to do things differently and better.

Routes Out of Poverty

We are working to break the link between disability and poverty.

Disabled people are twice as likely to live in poverty as other citizens, with roughly a third of disabled people living in poverty at some point in their lives. This is unacceptable and avoidable.

We influence Government by talking directly with Ministers and officials and lobbying in Parliament. We want welfare reform that reduces red tape but does not limit opportunities or cut the money in disabled people's pockets.

Independent Living

We are working to influence new adult social care legislation along with other organisations including National Centre for Independent Living (NCIL).

We want a national care and support system that is based on clear rights to independent living and joined up support, that is free at the point of use: and a system that liberates people to participate as well as live with true dignity.

We are campaigning for portability legislation to enable disabled people and their families to move to another area - for instance, for a job - with a seamless transition to an equivalent care and support package.
